In a similar case of non-profit support, WDR reported on the willingness to help in the Rhine district after a fire had occurred in a residential and commercial building in Düsseldorf-Flingern over two months ago. The tragic incident called for the life of 18-year-old Ada, the brother of Asya Abay. After the fire, Abay's parents lived in an uninhabitable house and had to temporarily move to relatives to the Ruhr area. Asya Abay was also concerned with the organization of the funeral and the search for new accommodation.
On the initiative of her friend Dunia Wahdan, a fundraising campaign was launched that brought in more than 40,000 euros. These funds covered the costs for the burial, the disposal of the burned house council and the establishment of a new apartment. Abay and her family have now moved into a three-room apartment near Bonn. In addition, an aid campaign was organized from the neighborhood, in which approximately 15,000 euros were collected. These donations were distributed to all affected house residents by the Düsseldorf community foundation and the city. The responsible property management is planning a complete renovation of the damaged building, which is expected to take about one and a half years and will cost several million euros, as WDR reported.
