From heart attack to the master: Claus Hillers fought for 3. Dan in the Jiu-Jitsu!

Wilhelmshaven, Deutschland - In an impressive comeback, Claus Hillers, an entrepreneur from Wilhelmshaven, achieved his 3. Dan in the Jiu-Jitsu, despite a heart attack that threw him out of the track about ten years ago. Hillers, who is known as a black belt carrier (2nd Dan), fought back with tireless ambition and shows that you can realize your dreams even after heavy setbacks.

The return to martial arts was anything but easy for Hillers. After his heart attack, he faced the challenge of not only training himself again in the SDS Wilhelmshaven under the guidance of Hanna Weiland, but also teaching others the Jiu-Jitsu. The desire to continue his master career became stronger, and so the intensive preparation for the demanding exam for the 3rd Dan, which he now successfully passed in the Swiss town of Wattwil began.

extreme test under pressure

The test for the 3rd Dan is an extreme challenge that is an enormous burden even for healthy athletes. Hillers had to demonstrate over 100 technical actions in quick succession while he had to defend himself against blows, kicks, strangling and gripping techniques as well as weapon attacks. "At this level, test subjects have developed their own special techniques," explains Claude Weiland, head of the SDS. Hillers not only demonstrated his technical skills, but also the ability to explain and defend his strategies under pressure.

At the end of the more than one-hour exam, an enthusiastic examination commission of the Budo Academy Europe (BAE) stood in front of him. When asked how he could motivate himself despite his setbacks, Hillers gave a clear answer: "My master is Hanna Weiland - I don't even need to come with lame excuses like heart attack." A truly inspiring example of perseverance and passion in martial arts!
