Marnie Menkens: Kickboxer becomes managing director in Wilhelmshaven!
Marnie Menkens, the 26-year-old power woman from Wilhelmshaven, has taken the reins at the Association for Municipal Prevention (VKP)! The starting signal for her new role as managing director was given at the beginning of the month. For the passionate kickboxer, this is the perfect place to finally put her skills and passion for preventive work into practice. “It’s the perfect position,” enthuses Menkens about her new challenge, which has had a significant impact on her professional career.
After graduating from high school in 2018 and studying education in Oldenburg, Menkens has had an impressive journey. She had to put her vision as a police officer on hold after she tore her cruciate ligament before starting her training. But her determination didn't let her down! Marnie's new plan B led her into youth care and numerous projects that she has been involved in since then. “During this time, I got to know the many networks in Wilhelmshaven,” she reports about her initial experiences that prepared her for the leadership role in the VKP.
A very special comeback
After receiving her bachelor's degree, Marnie was initially unsure about what to do next. To improve her career prospects, she decided to get a master's degree, which didn't make finding a suitable job any easier. “There was an endless search for educators and social educators, but I wanted to get into project planning and networking,” she explains. Finally her fate met her in the form of a message from Jörg Ratzmann about a vacancy in the VKP. And now? Marnie brings new life into the club's work, together with a new board with whom she wants to implement fresh ideas. “We get along very well and already have some ideas about what we want to tackle and achieve,” she announces enthusiastically.
Every day that she works at the VKP, Menkens comes full circle: "I can help people and work preventatively. It couldn't be better." Of course, the athlete also stays active with kickboxing. “And on the 2nd Dan I also work part-time,” she adds with a smile. The future looks bright for this dynamic CEO!
