Sparta Prague in the crisis: Brest celebrates third victory in the Champions League!
A dramatic evening in Prague! The Stade Brestois defeated the Sparta Prague 2-1 and thus catapults into fourth place in the Champions League. The Breton fans celebrated their heroes, while the Prague spectators left the stadium disappointed after the final whistle. The victory for Brest was a masterpiece that was secured by a goal from Edimilson Fernandes in the 38th minute and an own goal of Kaan Cairinen in the 79th minute. The only ray of hope for Sparta was the late hit by Victor Olatunji in added time, which, however, did not change anything at the outcome of the game.
Sparta in the crisis
The Sparta Prague, which started at the beginning of the Champions League, has now received two defeats in a row and remains in 26th place with only four points. Trainer Lars Friis admitted that his team made too many mistakes to be successful in such a competition. "We have not shown the quality that you need in the Champions League," he said, referring to the numerous injured regular players who lack the team. Despite the deficit, Sparta tried to come back, but the weaknesses on the defensive were too serious.
In contrast, Brest showed an impressive performance and could have made the result even higher. Coach Éric Roy praised his team's control over the game and emphasized that despite the tight tour, they were increasingly closer to another goal than Sparta. "It was a great idea and we managed to control the atmosphere in the stadium," said Roy.
With this victory, Brest is now traveling to Barcelona, where they will meet a completely different challenge. Sparta, on the other hand, has to compete against Atlético Madrid on November 26th, and a defeat could mean that in the Champions League. The situation is tense and the fans hope for a turn in the fate of their team.
