New rules for Ukrainians: Auto license plates in Stade have to change!
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, over 4,700 Ukrainian refugees have found a new refuge in the Stade district. Around 3,300 of these war refugees currently live there, many of them with their own vehicles that have so far been allowed to wear the Ukrainian license plate. However, this regulation, which was considered an exception, expired on September 30 of this year.
Now the vehicle owners who have a residence and residence permit in Germany must allow their cars according to the German provisions. The Road Traffic Authority of the Stade district points out that foreign vehicles are normally allowed to take part in road traffic up to one year after entry into Germany, provided they are safe and operational and the owner has a valid insurance. This means a significant change for the refugee Ukrainians.
New requirements for approval
With the entry into force of the new regulations on October 1, Ukrainian refugees must register their vehicles if they want to stay in Germany in the long term. For this purpose, the Federal Ministry of Transport has developed a procedure together with the federal states. Various documents are required to allow your car in Germany.
- A valid personnel document with a name in Latin letters.
- The Ukrainian admission certificate and the previous license plate signs.
- an individual permit according to § 21 of the road traffic registration regulations or, if available, the EU agreement certificate (COC) from a successfully carried out main inspection.
- A proof of the insurance company, which may not contain a green insurance card or border insurance, since these only apply to international traffic.
- A SEPA direct debit mandate for the vehicle tax, including the IBAN and BIC.
- if already existed, the proof of discharge of the responsible main customs office.
For this approval, it is important to point out that the use of digital Ukrainian documents is not accepted. As soon as the approval has been made, the Ukrainian license plates must be replaced by German license plates. All necessary data can be registered via the website of the Stade district: www.landkreis-stade.de.
