New rules for Ukrainians: car license plates in Stade have to change!
Since the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, over 4,700 Ukrainian refugees have found a new refuge in the Stade district. Around 3,300 of these war refugees currently live there, many of them with their own vehicles that were previously allowed to carry Ukrainian license plates. However, this regulation, which was considered an exception, expired on September 30th of this year.
Now vehicle owners who have a residence and residence permit in Germany must register their cars in accordance with German regulations. The Stade district road traffic authority points out that foreign vehicles are normally allowed to drive in Germany for up to one year after entering Germany, provided they are roadworthy and operationally safe and the owner has valid insurance. This means a significant change for the Ukrainian refugees.
New requirements for approval
With the new regulations coming into force on October 1st, Ukrainian refugees will have to register their vehicles if they want to stay in Germany long-term. For this purpose, the Federal Ministry of Transport has developed a procedure together with the federal states. In order to register your car in Germany, various documents are required.
- Ein gültiges Personaldokument mit Namensangabe in lateinischen Buchstaben.
- Die ukrainische Zulassungsbescheinigung sowie die bisherigen Kennzeichenschilder.
- Eine Einzelgenehmigung gemäß § 21 der Straßenverkehrszulassungs-Ordnung oder, falls vorhanden, die EU-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung (CoC) von einer erfolgreich durchgeführten Hauptuntersuchung.
- Ein Nachweis über die Versicherung, der keine grüne Versicherungskarte oder Grenzversicherung beinhalten darf, da diese nur für den internationalen Verkehr gelten.
- Ein SEPA-Lastschriftmandat für die Kfz-Steuer, einschließlich der IBAN und BIC.
- Wenn bereits vorhanden, der Verzollungsnachweis des zuständigen Hauptzollamtes.
For this approval, it is important to note that the use of digital Ukrainian documents is not accepted. As soon as registration has taken place, the Ukrainian license plates must be replaced by German license plates. All necessary data can be registered via the Stade district website: www.landkreis-stade.de.
