Tragic accident in Steinbergen: 74-year-old recorded by BMW!

Steinbergen. On the B238 there was a tragic incident: An 18-year-old man from Rinteln rose with his BMW 74-year-old woman who just wanted to cross the street. The impact was so violent that the woman died of the consequences of the accident. The Bückeburg public prosecutor has now initiated an investigation into negligent killing and participation in an illegal street race against the young driver.

Prosecutor Andre Lüth reports that there is a suspicion that the 18-year-old was driven at excessive speed. It is believed that he was not alone, because at least two vehicles are usually involved in a street race. However, the investigation is still underway, and Lüth cannot confirm whether it is still being investigated against other people. The driver has temporarily lost his driver's license, which indicates an urgent suspicion, but he is not in custody because there is no risk of escape.

Charge Probably

The accumulation is assessed as very likely. Lüth explains that an expert opinion on the accident reconstruction is created in order to clarify the exact speed of the driver and the braking behavior. This report is crucial for the further legal steps. If there is a conviction, it will be checked whether youth or adult criminal law is used. In the event of a conviction under adult criminal law, there is a risk of up to five years in prison, while juvenile justice law provides for milder punishments such as non -profit work or youth arrest.

In contrast to a similar case from Berlin, where drivers were convicted of murder, Lüth does not see any sufficient clues in the current case for a murder system. The hurdle for such an indictment is high, and there is currently no evidence of the intentional action of the 18-year-old. The investigation continues and the presumption of innocence applies until the facts are clarified.
