SC Auetal defeats SG Liekwegen in the relegation duel – hope arises!
In an exciting duel to stay in the district football league, SC Auetal met SG Liekwegen/Sülbeck/Südhorsten. While the hosts were in second-to-last place before kick-off, SG was currently bottom of the table. In the end, SC Auetal won 2-1, which meant the first step out of the relegation zone.
SC Auetal coach Jan-Frederik Meyer noted that the team may have benefited from momentum and a bit of luck. At the beginning, the Aueta team showed a lot of commitment, but SG Liekwegen had the better chances in the first half and should have taken the lead in time. The attacker Maldin Elyas was particularly noticeable, as he repeatedly pushed dangerously in front of the goal. After 45 minutes, a 6-0 win for the guests would not have been unrealistic, as Noah Cording, a SG player, noted.
Exploitation of opportunities on the part of the SG
But things turned out differently than expected. While SG Liekwegen dominated the game, SC Auetal managed the surprising 1-0 in stoppage time in the first half. Felix Rauhut hit the crossbar and Tim Neermann cleverly took advantage of the situation to push the ball over the line. With this rollercoaster moment, SC Auetal's self-confidence seemed to increase, which became clear in the second half.
The second half began with another shock for the guests. After a handball in the penalty area, the SG had the chance to equalize, but Ahmet-Yasar Akman missed the penalty. After the game, coach Kim Neubert was angry about his team's lack of converting their chances. As the playing time increased, SC Auetal pressed for the second goal, which they finally scored in the 73rd minute. Felix Rauhut was there again and sent a deflected pass over the line.
The SG's last gasp
Nevertheless, the guests did not give up. Timo Schmalz reduced the score to 1:2 in the 86th minute, which made the game even more exciting. In the last minutes of the game, SC Auetal seemed unsure and allowed the SG to get back into the game. A stronger performance in this phase could have resulted in an equalizer. “Just playing well in the last ten minutes is simply not enough,” complained Neubert, pointing out that he often had to rely on players from the reserves due to the personnel situation.
Thanks to this victory, SC Auetal can now find itself in 13th place, while SG Liekwegen/Sülbeck/Südhorsten remains in last place. Next week there is another important game for the SG against the also weak TSV Eintracht Exten, which could decide their future in the league.
