Salzgitter community foundation: projects against loneliness in the dark!

The Salzgitter community foundation takes part in the "Hand in Hand for Northern Germany" of North German Radio this winter. This campaign uses 100 percent for projects of the citizens' foundations in the north. Grant recipients are invited to submit projects to combat loneliness.

A central player in this context is the Hospiz Initiative Salzgitter, which is actively trying to promote initiatives to support mourners. Coordinator Ina von Rössing reports on the challenges with which widows and widower are confronted that often fall into loneliness after the loss of a partner. To help these people, the initiative organizes closed mourning groups.

The darkness of the season, according to Rössing, contributes to a stressful mood. Grief and loneliness can result in serious health consequences. Therefore, the meetings of the mourning groups take place every two weeks for two hours. In these groups, the participants have the opportunity to talk about loss and specific deaths. You can also exchange contact details and meet outside the groups.

In order to further address the topic of loneliness, the Salzgitter community foundation is planning a city tour in summer in cooperation with other institutions. Board member Wolfram Skorczyk has already asked associations and associations to make applications for "hand in hand". The funding volume of this action is considerable, even if the total amount has not yet been determined. Interested parties can deposit donations to the Social Bank (IBAN: DE35 201 205,200,500 600) by the end of January.

The Hospiz Initiative Salzgitter e. V., which was founded in 1994, has set itself the goal of promoting a conscious attitude towards dying, death, grief and farewell. She accompanies seriously ill and dying and would like to enable them to have a self -determined last phase of life. In 2005, a hospice was also built that offers space for up to eight guests and made it possible for them to have a last home.
