Wilhelmshaven twins conquer China: football and terracotta army!
The exciting journey of the two 13-year-old soccer twins Jon and Jakob Busse from Wilhelmshaven took them to China with the U14 of VfB Oldenburg! A 13-hour flight from Frankfurt to Xi’an, Oldenburg’s sister city, brought her into a world full of adventures and challenges. In addition to an exciting tournament, the program also included impressive visits, including the legendary Terracotta Army. The two boys were amazed by the cleanliness, the friendliness of the people and the breathtaking view from their five-star hotel room.
But before the trip began, there were some concerns in the Busse family. The twins originally wanted to take part in an internal school tournament, but the decision was ultimately made to go on the VfB tour to China. Despite the fact that they lost all their games - against teams whose players were up to two years older - the experience was unforgettable for both of them. Although the results were sobering, with an 8-2 defeat against the hosts and further defeats against teams from Uzbekistan and China, the focus was on the fun and enjoyment of the game.
An unforgettable experience
The games took place in the impressive Olympic Sports Center, which houses a 60,000-seater stadium. The atmosphere was electric, with musical entrances reminiscent of the Champions League. The twins also enjoyed interacting with the Chinese fans, taking numerous selfies and signing autographs. “That was fun!” enthused Jakob. But while Jon felt the reality was “unrealistic” for a professional career, Jakob at least dreams of a future in football.
The twins are currently playing in the district league for C II of VfB Oldenburg, who are currently leaders in the state league. Their training is intensive, they are on the pitch four times a week, supported by their parents. Despite the challenges, they agree: the best German football team is “clearly Bayern Munich”. The trip to China not only challenged her athletic skills, but also rekindled her passion for football!
