Oldenburg celebrates kale: a festival for gourmets and connoisseurs!

The cold season not only has its dreary pages, it also offers the opportunity to let herself be pampered in culinary delights - and not least because of the popular festival "Hello Grünkohl" in Oldenburg. On November 3, 2024, the town hall market turns into a gourmet paradise for all kale lovers. Oldenburg Tourismus und Marketing GmbH (OTM) has put together a diverse program for this occasion that not only delights the palate, but also informs about the meaning of the popular cabbage.

This year 15 local companies are represented that present their creative interpretations of the green superfood. From traditional home cooking to innovative variations - the selection is large. Visitors can look forward to a variety of dishes, all of which are prepared with kale. Vegan alternatives, kale burger and even kale smoothies are offered. A special highlight is kale gin, both alcohol-free and in cocktails. Even the beer from the Ols brewery, known as the "Green Anton", is refined with kale.

versatile activities and entertainment

But "hello kale" is much more than just a culinary festival. The botanical garden will provide information about a new project for ecological kale cultivation, while special kale wellness products are presented in the Olantis Huntebad. In addition, visitors can purchase kale souvenirs and use a free photo box. The Shanychor Oldenburg ensures musical entertainment and brings a happy atmosphere with sailor songs and shantys. The afternoon will lead the moderator Roland Kanwicher, and the game of kale bingo with attractive profits ensures additional tension.

A novelle kale barometer is also introduced: Every pleasure helps to support the “Kaltebus Oldenburg” project of the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. Visitors can register their eaten portions online and thus support a good cause.

culture and community in focus

The festival is characterized by community and culture. The OTM leads a new group through the world of kale and invites you to learn something about the regional culture of kale. The leadership "Kohl & Kultur" enables groups of 6 to 20 people to discover the traditional history and culture around the green vegetables in an entertaining way. Interactive elements and regional products will ensure a varied experience. This tour can be booked all year round from November 2024 and is aimed at everyone who is looking for an authentic insight into the Oldenburg kale tradition.
