Christmas bonus for Thuringian pensioners: 500 euros for those in need!
The Thuringian SPD has tackled a hot iron: Christmas bonus for pensioners! While civil servants and many employees in industry, like Porsche and Bosch, benefit from this special payment, the seniors have so far expired empty. Georg Maier, the SPD state party leader in Thuringia, has worked out a plan that could change that. A Christmas bonus of 500 euros is to be introduced for the pensioners - a message that makes many hearts beat faster!
Not all pensioners will enjoy this financial support. According to the SPD's proposal, the Christmas bonus is to be paid exclusively to the recipient of the basic pension. This affects around 54,000 seniors in Thuringia, who either receive a basic pension surcharge or rely on basic security in old age. Denny Möller, the pension policy spokesman for the Thuringian SPD, describes this as an "important step towards more pension righteousness". The support of the population is great: a survey shows that around two thirds of the Thuringian are behind the project.
The costs of the Christmas bonus
But what would that mean for the state treasury? With 54,000 floor retirement, the cost of a one -time Christmas payment from 500 euros per person would increase to around 27 million euros. If the model is implemented nationwide, even around 1.7 million pensioners would be entitled to claim. The total costs for a nationwide 13th monthly payment would amount to around 850 million euros per year. A huge amount that would have to be planned in the household!
In other European countries such as Greece, Spain and Italy, Christmas bonuses are already a reality for pensioners. While Germany is on the spot in the pension reform, it remains to be seen whether and when the Christmas bonus for seniors will also be introduced in this country. Time is pushing and the pensioners are waiting for the decision!
