Farewell to the Musikhaus Frick: 46 years full of melodies and memories

The Frick music store has been closed in Sins since the end of September. The owner Jean-Pierre Frick, who worked in his industry for almost five decades, looks back on a remarkable career that led him on the stages of great artists and to countless valuable memories. At the age of 75 he heralded a new phase of life, but continues to continue to be deeply rooted in the music.

The sales room of the music house at Bahnhofstrasse 17 is almost empty, there are only three pianos on the wall, including one that Frick wants to keep itself. In a short musical performance, he shows his talent, which ranges from classical to jazz to blues. These moments seem to be able to give him joy and illustrate his deep connection to music.

From training to your own business

Passion for sound generation began for Frick in his youth in neighboring Mettmenstetten, where he learned piano -repairer and stimmer. In Germany and Austria, he deepened his training as a piano maker. In 1978 the desire for self -employment became a reality when he opened the Frick music store in the Pfrundhaus in Sins, supported by his wife Véronique, who filled his caves in everyday office life with skill and dedication.

In 1991, the move to the former rooms of a cheese dairy followed, the Frick's shop with high ceilings and a spacious sales room. Over the years, Frick was not only a seller, but also a master of his field, who lived up to the different needs of his customers every day. "I have the best job in the world!" He raved and reported with a smile about his experiences with customers from all social classes that often entrusted him with more than just their pianos.

an unforgettable moment on the concert stage

Frick is particularly proud of his appearances in concert quantities, where he was tuned to piano for famous pianists such as Artur Rubinstein. From Rubinstein he received the advice that "three things are needed to happily be happy: good food, a cigar and love". These personal encounters with some of the greatest artists shaped his career and left lasting memories. However, he also said that the work in the concert halls was often very exhausting because it lasted until late at night.

Despite his passion for music, Frick repeatedly found that the business with piano has become increasingly challenging. While electronic pianos have become increasingly popular, many customers tended to get advice in the shop to order on the Internet. "You can't just buy a piano online, you have to see and hear it," he explains with regret about this development.

The music house closed its doors not only because of the increasing competition on the Internet. Frick and his wife also have the desire to enjoy their retirement together without having to think about the business obligations. You want to have freedom to attend concerts and spend the time together as you always wanted.

Although Jean-Pierre Frick has now given up his business, he remains true to his passion. He plans to continue to vote and actively support the music culture. "I will continue to hear the stories of my customers, they are an important part of my life," says Frick, who has left the management of a family traditional company in the music landscape.
