Hope for justice: Lower Saxony fights against cold cases!

In Lower Saxony there are currently enormous hopes of finally clarifying over 375 unresolved criminal cases that were partly for decades. According to current reports, 328 homicides and 47 missing people are listed in the list of so -called "Cold Cases", which are repeatedly taken up by investigators afterwards. The most famous cases, such as the Göhrde murders from 1989, in which two couples were brutally murdered, are exemplary for the agonizing uncertainty with which the relatives have to live, such as n-tv.de reported.

New momentum through technology

In order to finally get on the track of these cases, investigators have modern technologies at their disposal that have made great progress in recent years. Above all, the DNA analysis, but also the use of artificial intelligence, could set decisive course for clarifying these complex murders. This is also confirmed by Oliver Rickwartz from the Ministry of the Interior. In addition, the police are checking new information and partly carrying out special public views, as in the case of Ulla Lilienthal, whose body was found in 1985. Here, too, the police recently relied on the use of posters and rewards to receive further information, such as ndr.de reported.

The resumption of the investigation is not only important for the investigation of the cases, but also offers consolation and hope to the members of the victims. The investigation often leads to new findings that can be linked to other crimes. Lower Saxony invests in new methods of investigation, including the digitization of old files in order to be able to search them more efficiently. The realization that no case is forgotten is invaluable for many affected people.
