Neumünster, Deutschland - On January 7, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) published a storm warning for Schleswig-Holstein. The districts of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Plön, Ostholstein as well as the cities of Kiel and Neumünster are affected. The warning applies from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and shows a warning level of 2 out of 4, which means that storm gusts are possible.
The potential dangers include falling branches and flying objects. According to the DWD, wind speeds that are measured with the Beaufort scale can reach up to 88 km/h, which corresponds to a storm of strength 9. In the Elbe from Hamburg to Cuxhaven, a warning of strong winds was issued, valid since 4:48 a.m., with wind directions from Southwest 6 to 7 and gusts to 10 Beaufort. For the Elbe/Weser estuary, a storm warning has been in place since 5:16 p.m. on January 6th, with wind directions from Südwest 8 and gusts up to 11 Beaufort.
Furthermore, warnings of Sturm for Flensburg to Fehmarn were pronounced at 7:27 a.m. on January 7th, with wind directions from southwest 7 to 8 and gusts to 11 Beaufort. A warning of severe gusts of wind was also published for the island of Helgoland and the district of Dithmarschen, which also applies between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. At high wind speeds, thunderstorms are also not excluded, as dwd.de also reported.
