The St. Josefs Hospital is not only a central economic factor, but also crucial for the medical care of the citizens. Varnhorn emphasizes: "The qualified medical care close to home must be secured." To achieve this, the city administration plans to work closely with all relevant actors. But the challenges are great: the mayor demands a reform of the state and federal government's financing systems, since many clinics in the country suffer from the current regulations and are in danger of getting into bankruptcy.

The clinic management has stated in a press release that the increasing costs in the past two years could not be covered by corresponding remuneration incidents, which has led to structural underfunding. Managing Director Andreas Krone makes it clear: "The costs from ongoing operation are no longer portable." Despite the sales of institutions such as the medical center and the community psychiatric center, the financial possibilities are exhausted. It is all the more important to set the right course for sustainable renovation now.

The salaries of around 860 employees are secured and the medical and nursing care of the patients is fully continued. The St. Josefs Hospital therefore remains a central point of contact for the population, while those responsible do everything they can to lead the clinic into a stable future.
