The death of a man who is remembered by many in Ammerland as a charismatic figure has touched the community. Father Willi (Wilhelm) Krause died at the age of 91 in the Limburg mission house and left a legacy of the community and faith. The news has only recently become known, and the grief for the clergy who worked in the Catholic parish of St. Vinzenz Pallotti in Edewecht from 2001 to 2008 is great. His funeral will take place in Limburg on October 11th.

Krause was born in 1933 in Zlaté Hory in Czech. He felt the desire to explore the world early on, which ultimately brought him into trouble. In 1951 he tried to flee to the West, but was taken up and imprisoned. In prison he met a smuggler who finally helped him to flee. After his arrival in Germany he continued his training and became a missionary.

His mission -patient services initially led him to South America, where he spent twelve years in Brazil and 22 years in Argentina and three years in Bolivia before finally came to Edewecht. After returning to Germany, he worked again in Olpe until he moved to the senior ward in the Limburg mission house in 2009.

Father Willi Krause will be remembered as someone who worked tirelessly to promote the Catholic community and inspire people. The legacy of his life is estimated by many in Ammerland and beyond, and the ecumenical relationships he built up continue to contribute to the community.
