New entry requirements: Only enter Tunisia with a passport!

From January 1, 2025, new entry regulations for German citizens in Tunisia will come into force. Entry is then only possible with a passport, as ID cards are no longer accepted. A temporary passport can also be used, but only under certain conditions, such as proof of a return ticket and sufficient financial resources for the stay. Tunisian border officials can also request proof of financial resources if there is no booking confirmation for a package tour, such as calf reported.

In addition, the Foreign Office is informing about a travel warning for certain regions in Tunisia. This warning concerns the area south or southeast of a line from the border with Algeria via Tozeur/Nafta - Douz - Ksar Ghilane - Tataouine to Zarzis as well as the immediate border area with Algeria and mountainous regions near the Algerian border (El Aioun to Kasserine). Individual, unorganized desert tours are also at increased risk of terrorist attacks, particularly in Tunis and Djerba.
The tense security situation in these regions is the reason for the warning. There is also a new ban in Vietnam that will apply from 2025, with high penalties for violation.

Safety and travel advice

The Foreign Office points out that no vaccinations from Germany are required to enter Tunisia, but standard vaccinations are recommended. Medical care is good in Tunis, but limited outside the city. There is an increased risk of accidents on the road and the police can carry out checks for speeding. Travelers are advised to sign up for the crisis preparedness list and follow local media.
The trade in souvenirs made from animals or plants is also an issue that is being brought to attention due to strict import regulations auswaertiges-amt.de reported.

Those interested in traveling should find out more about the new regulations before their departure and keep an eye on the security situation in Tunisia.
