After the attack in Magdeburg: survey shows political shocks!

After the devastating attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg, in which five people died on December 20, 2024 and were injured over 200, the political parties in Germany reacted to the tragedy. The incident has triggered a wave of outrage and reinforced the demands for changes in the law in the area of internal security, in particular by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD).

While the political reactions are increasing, a recently carried out survey by Ina (December 20 to 23, 2024) re -evaluated the political landscapes in Germany. The survey results show that the CDU/CSU remains the strongest force at 31%, even though it has fallen 0.5%. The SPD also had to accept a slight decline from 0.5% to 16%. In contrast, the AfD was able to keep its value stable at 19.5%.

voters and potential coalitions

The survey also revealed some shifts in terms of the support of certain parties. The Greens were able to grow by 1% and are now at 12.5%, while the left has risen by 0.5% to 3%. The FDP remained stable at 5%, as was the alliance for social turn (BSW) with 8% unchanged. The survey suggests that there is no majority for a black and green coalition, but a cooperation between the Union and the SPD or a Jamaica coalition (CDU/CSU, Greens, FDP) could be realistic.

like merkur.de and infranken.de in the coming weeks could continue to be influenced by the consequences of the attack. The surveys show that a parliamentary majority of 47% is possible for a grand coalition (CDU/CSU and SPD), while the Jamaica coalition could achieve a stable majority of 48.5%.

In addition, experts expressed concerns that the election surveys are currently affected with uncertainties, since they only reflect the opinion at a specific time.
