Musk and AfD: freedom of expression or dangerous influence?
The Brandenburg state parliament decided to shut down its account on platform X on January 1, 2025. This measure was hit by Landtag President Ulrike Liedtke (SPD) without involving the Presidium in the decision -making process. The background of the decommissioning is the increasing hatched and personality -violating comments on the social media platform.
However, the state parliament remains active on other social media such as Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. AfD parliamentary group leader Hans-Christoph Bernde sharply criticized the decision and described it as a "flight before the debate". Berndt sees a “sign of hope” for freedom of expression in the platform X and praises Elon Musk. This had called for the AfD election in December, which interpreted the party as support.discussion and AfD engagement
On January 9, Musk will have a discussion with AfD top candidate Alice Weidel on X. Weidel also plans to take part in a SpaceX space start in the USA in February 2025. The AfD had previously protested against the settlement of Tesla's work in Grünheide. Berndt makes it clear that the AfD's attitude towards Musk and Tesla is unchanged: Although the location is considered wrong, the state government is to blame. The AfD sees Musk not only as a supporter of his Tesla investment, but as a campaign helper and pioneer of freedom of expression, such as RBB24 reported .
At the same time, Elon Musk published a guest post in the "Welt am Sonntag" in which he expressly supports the AfD. Known as an inventor of electric cars and owners of X (formerly Twitter), his contribution is perceived as a blunt voting advertising for the AfD. This party is known not least for its nationalist slogans and constitutionally questionable statements. The article also raises questions about freedom of expression, especially in relation to where the limits of this freedom are in Germany. According to Article 18 of the Basic Law, freedom of expression can be forfeited if it endangers democracy.
In his contribution,Musk argues that the AfD can be represented as a multicultural party by working with Alice Weidel with a person from Sri Lanka. Jan Philipp Burgard, the prospective editor -in -chief of the "world", describes Musk as "genius". Critical voices see the article as journalistically questionable and politically dangerous, especially in view of Musk's criticism of the German education system and its reference to a "left -wing cultural crisis". The question is raised whether the "world" has done a service to its readers by offering Musk a platform, such as "https://www.investmentweek.com/elon- and-die-fd-wenn--freiheit-zur-plattform-fur-radikale-werd/"> Investment Week reported .
