Animal protection scandal in the Allgäu: farmers have to answer in court!
Memmingen –A shocking animal welfare scandal rocks the region! Three farmers will appear before the Memmingen regional court on Wednesday, accused of cruel neglect of their cattle. The allegations are alarming: in 32 cases, the men are said to have massively violated the Animal Protection Act, and the animals suffered from catastrophic conditions.
This is not the first time that the defendants have come into the focus of justice. The trial against the senior partner and his two sons had already begun, but was interrupted due to scheduling difficulties. The father denied the serious allegations and claimed that veterinarians were regularly in the stable. But reality tells a different story: According to investigators, over half of the animals in the case had to be slaughtered or euthanized, while some have already died.
The origin of the scandal
The defendant's farm in Bad Grönenbach is the starting point of this shocking scandal. In 2019, the animal protection organization “Soko Tierschutz” released a shocking video that exposed the cruel conditions in a large farm. The case caused a nationwide stir and led to investigations against several farms, some of which have already been convicted.
A total of 20 days of trial are scheduled for the current trial, and a verdict could come as early as the end of February. The public's eyes are on Memmingen - will justice be achieved for the suffering animals?
