Mega insolvency in Carinthia: myrobin GmbH is fighting against the flood of debt!

A remarkable development in Carinthia's startup scene caused a stir on May 24, 2025: Hannes Jagerhofer, the well-known entrepreneur and organizer of beach volleyball tournaments, has declared the insolvency of his company myrobin GmbH. This announcement follows the recent bankruptcies of Acts Sport Veranstaltungs GmbH and Houseofweb GmbH. The Alpine Creditors Association (AKV) confirmed the insolvency on Thursday morning.

myrobin GmbH, which pursues a business model in which private individuals transport packages for a fee, is struggling with considerable financial difficulties. The liabilities amount to around 3.9 million euros, while the assets only amount to around 722,590 euros. The over-indebtedness is therefore around 3.2 million euros, which shows that around 30 creditors are affected. Business operations were discontinued and formal termination of the company's activities was requested.

Background to the bankruptcy

The reasons for bankruptcy are complex. High costs for app development as well as a lack of funds for sales and further development have placed a heavy burden on the company. Despite previous attempts at financing by potential donors, there have been no successful discussions. These setbacks are indicative of the current reluctance to invest in startups, as Kosmo reports.

In the summer of 2023, myrobin was able to successfully carry out a crowd investing campaign and collect 900,000 euros from 466 investors. At the same time, a partnership with ÖBB was announced in October 2023, but this was not enough to stabilize the company economically.

Shareholders and other corporate activities

The shareholders of myrobin include Mark Mateschitz (11.48%), Herbert Koch (8.35%) and SevenVentures GmbH (8.49%). Jagerhofer is also known as the co-founder of checkfelix and, after his exit in 2011, launched the transport service platform Checkrobin.

In addition to myrobin, Jagerhofer has launched another project, the startup revels. This platform connects buyers and sellers in the field of bridal fashion. However, it is currently not making a profit but plans to switch to listing fees once major growth occurs. Market entry in Germany is planned for 2024, and an application for the WKO's digital check has already been submitted.

Insolvencies in Austria in context

This bankruptcy case is not isolated. According to Statistics Austria, extensive data on company registrations and insolvencies was collected in the first quarter of 2021 up to the current reporting period. This data is evaluated according to aggregated economic sectors and is based on judicial insolvency proceedings. The decline in the number of newly founded companies and the simultaneous increase in bankruptcies point to the challenges that many startups in Austria face.

The developments surrounding the insolvency of myrobin GmbH cast a shadow on Carinthia's startup scene, while entrepreneurs like Jagerhofer continue to strive for new business models.
