Election workers urgently wanted: How to secure democracy in MV!

In the coming weeks, the municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are faced with a huge challenge: the new election of the Bundestag on February 23, 2025 throws their shadows ahead! There is a search for election helpers everywhere, because only with their support can the urn can run smoothly. The city and community day MV urgently warns: "Otherwise our cities and municipalities have to fall back on unpopular holiday blocks for their own employees!"

The city administration of Rostock has already rolled up the sleeves. Not only suitable optional rooms have to be found here, but also the election workers have to be recruited quickly. City spokesman Ulrich Kunze emphasizes the urgency: "It is about ensuring the necessary accuracy despite the high speed." In Rostock, 133 urn and 52 postal voting stations are set up, and estimated 1,500 election workers are required. Depending on the function, the compensation for the helpers could be between 50 and 100 euros - an adjustment for the upcoming election is in discussion.

Greifswald and Schwerin in the race for helpers

The university town of Greifswald has also called on its citizens to get involved as election workers. At least 425 volunteers are required for the 42 general constituencies and 18 postal voting districts. Here, an allowance between 45 and 80 euros. The state capital Schwerin is also on alert: around 750 to 800 election helpers are needed to operate over 60 urn and 20 postal voting stations. City spokeswoman Michaela Christen assures that the electoral authority is working hard on the necessary infrastructure.

The Hanseatic city of Wismar also forged its plans and needs around 300 election workers for 36 election boards. There is a "refreshment allowance" between 35 and 45 euros. The prerequisites for the election honorary office are clear: All Germans who are 18 years old on election day and have been living in Germany for at least three months must be eligible. In Germany, a total of around 650,000 volunteers are required in Germany - a huge effort that is already in full swing!
