Traffic chaos at the Sparkassen Marathon: Everything you need to know!

On Saturday, October 12th, the 16th Sparkassen-Rügenbrücken-Marathon will take place in Stralsund. This significant sporting event not only brings numerous participants, but also comprehensive changes in city traffic. In order to ensure the smooth running of the marathon, various streets and parking spaces are affected by closures.

Already on Thursday, October 10th, the P&R parking lot Mahnkesche Wiese will be closed from 8:00 a.m. for the construction of the event area. On the day of the event itself, from 9.15 a.m. to around 3:30 p.m., several streets are completely closed, including on the harbor railway, Werftstraße and Schwarze Kuppe. As a result, the new Rügenbrücke is blocked in both directions for vehicle traffic on October 12 from 8:45 a.m. until around 3 p.m. The traffic is therefore diverted via the old Rügendamm.

traffic routing and diversions

An important detail is that during the blocking, traffic management from and to Rügen via the Altstadt junction in Stralsund and via the Altefähr junction takes place on Rügen. In order to drive the traffic safely, the traffic lights at the Rügendammbahnhof and Bauhofstrasse are switched off. Drivers are asked to consider the signposted diversions in Greifswalder Chaussee/B 96.

For everyone who wants to travel from and to the island of Rügen, there is the opportunity to use the ferry traffic between Stahlbrode and Glewitz. These ferries run every 40 minutes and offer a comfortable alternative during traffic restrictions.

parking and bus traffic

Since the parking spaces P 1 and P 2 are not available on Werftstraße and Mahnkesche Wiese, it is recommended to use the P&R parking lot P 3 "Black Kuppe" or the Volkswerft car park. Driving options for these parking spaces are given along the signposted diversion towards Rügen. Organizers and organizers rely on the fact that all road users observe the signs on site.

The “Black Kuppe” stop is not served on the marathon day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. due to the closures and diversions of lines 1 and 30. Passengers must therefore expect any delays in city traffic, which means consequences for all mobility in Stralsund.

Clear communication about these changes is crucial to inform both participants and spectators well. The organizers ask for understanding and cooperation so that the event becomes a complete success.
