Mysterious seal death: 40 animals died on Rügen's coast!

A shocking seal death shakes the east coast of Rügen! Already 40 gray seals have been found dead, and the first results of the examinations make you take notice. Three of the dead animals have apparently drowned into fishing nets - an alarming sign of the marine habitats!

The histological analyzes, carried out by the Sea Museum Stralsund, confirm the assumptions: The organs of the examined seals show injuries that are typical of animals that have got caught in nets. Judith Denkinger, the curator of the museum, explains that it is still unclear whether the seals have accidentally got into the networks or whether they were specifically caught. In the coming days, further results will be expected from eight further autopsy, which may bring even more light into the dark.

Expert: Odductions extend for a long time

The first carcasses were discovered several weeks ago, and despite the investigations, the exact cause of death remains unclear. Biologist Ulrich Karlowski from the German Foundation for Meer Protection expresses his surprise about the long duration of the autopsy. The possibility of a targeted poisoning must also be considered, since such incidents are not unknown in Germany.

According to the sea biologist Henning from Nordheim, 20 percent of the cone seal in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have already died-an alarming condition! In order to protect the remaining seals, he urgently demands the introduction of seal -proof fishing devices. This measure could even be supported with EU funds to organize fishing ecologically and at the same time protect the marine dwellers.
