Stralsund, Deutschland - In Stralsund, the official starting signal for a nationwide collection of the Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge (VdK) is today. Until November 24th, citizens, pupils, soldiers and reservists on the streets will ask for donations to maintain the war graves of both world wars. The kick -off event takes place on the old market and promises to draw attention to the important work of the VdK.

At the same time, an impressive exhibition is opened in Schwerin, which focuses on the commitment of the VDK for peace. Under the title "Together for Peace. War Gräberstätten as European Learning Places", until November 9th, the Marienplatz gallery showed on 24 banners how the association looks after the German war graves abroad. The VdK, which fulfills this essential task on behalf of the federal government, takes care of almost three million graves of war dead in 46 countries in Europe and North Africa.

The donations collected during the campaign are not only intended for the care of the graves, but also support the historical and political educational work of the VDK. This initiative is of great importance to preserve the inheritance of the victims of war and to keep the memory of the past alive. The VdK is the only club worldwide that largely stems this state task through contributions and donations.
