Schwerin: Unheard of honor cemetery - police investigated!

In the past few days there has been an unfortunate incident in the Honorcyst Cemetery of Schwerin. Several graves were desolated in this special cemetery, which serves as the final resting place for numerous soldiers of the Red Army, concentration camp prisoners and persecuted of the Nazi regime. As the police announced, 28 grave spots were significantly damaged by titting tombstones out of the ground and their concrete base were re -punched.

The cemetery administration expressed that the extent of these destruction puts other vandalism cases from the past in the shade. According to the police estimates, the material damage amounts to several thousand euros. This desecration apparently took place between October 2 and 4, so during the celebrations for the Day of German Unity, which were celebrated in Schwerin by tens of thousands of people.

examinations and possible motives

The police investigation is currently concentrating on the legal aspects of this act. In particular, it is determined because of the disturbance of the dead rest and property damage. The police spokeswoman indicated that one also wanted to check whether there may be a political motivation behind these acts. This consideration is particularly relevant in view of the historical background of the cemetery, since many of the people buried there were victims of fascism.

The cemetery of honor houses over 1,500 graves, with about half of the buried war fats, which were often buried in collective tombs. Such acts not only raise questions about the motivating factors, but also employ society in the affected regions. The destruction of memorial sites is a serious matter that not only attacks the memory of the deceased, but also undermines respect for history.

Thanks to the public interest and reporting, the authorities and the cemetery administration hope that such terrible acts can be prevented in the future. With a more precise examination, one hopes to determine the perpetrators and to send a clear message against vandalism and disrespect against the victims of the past. The current situation remains tense, while the police continue to investigate the case and observe the community how it reacts to this violation of the memorials.
