The focus: Günther Uecker exhibition enthusiastic in MV library

On Thursday evening, the State Library of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania opened its doors for a special exhibition, which is dedicated to the important artist Günther Uecker. The event attracted almost 60 guests, that of Matthias Wehry, the new head of the library, and Dr. Pirko Zinnow, the director of the state castles, gardens and art collections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (SSGK M-V).

In the heart of the opening, Uecker's artistic impressions for the theater, which was recognized by the artists and experts present. One of the highlights of the evening was the lecture by the internationally renowned photographer A.T. Shepherd. He shared his personal experiences from the time with lively anecdotes and humor when he photographed Uecker's stage sets. His memories of the Wagner productions of the "Parsifal" from 1976 in Stuttgart received a lot of attention.

a trip to the theater world

The special thing about it was that Schaefer did not rule all the principles of theater photography at this time. Nevertheless, he managed to capture the fleeting moments of theater art in impressive photographs. As a sign of recognition, he presented Dr. Zinnow a cassette full of photographs that document the collaboration between him and Uecker.

dr. Andreas Roloff, the curator of the exhibition, then led the guests through the cabinet exhibition with the title "Theater work. Stage and music at the Günther Ueckers plant". This exhibition can be seen in the state library until December 6, 2024 and offers a deeper insight into the creative work of Ueckers.

Another exciting aspect of the exhibition is the fact that it is part of a multi-year cooperation project between the state castles, gardens and art collections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the State Office for Cultural and Monument Conservation. The reason for this special presentation is the temporary closure of the Schwerin State Museum, which is currently in renovation work.

The impressive "white scream" artwork will also be seen in the exhibition, a loan from the University of Credit Bank Munich. This monumental work is returned to its original place with the new opening of the museum, planned for 2025 and promises to generate a reverberation beyond the exhibition.

For art -loving and theater lovers, the exhibition not only offers an opportunity to honor Uecker's important contributions to the stage, but also to explore the fascinating connection between photography and theater art. The event and the exhibition once again illustrate how art and culture are interwoven and what the lasting effects they have on our perception.
