Rostock in the construction site chaos: Large project is changing Grubenstraße!
Rostock. The Grubenstraße in Rostock is currently turning into a massive construction site. So far, three streets have been affected by closings, but this could soon be more. On behalf of the Rostock Society for Urban Renewal (RGS) and together with the Nordwasser water supplier, two construction sites are merged into a larger construction project. There are extensive renovation and renovation measures on the program.
The construction work started on June 10th and should be completed by the end of May 2025. A fundamental renovation of roads and sidewalks is planned, while important lines have to be relocated at the same time. Improvements of the infrastructure, such as wider lanes, new ramps and stairs, as well as appealing green areas, are also planned
Extensive construction measures in the city
The main goal of these conversion measures is to create a more appealing cityscape. The new features also include improved street lighting and an optimized drainage system. These changes should not only improve traffic, but also contribute to upgrading public space. The RGS has announced that the construction site could be restructured several times in order to coordinate the construction progress and the necessary closures.
In this context, the parking situation is also adapted to the construction site: In the future, the parking lot in front of the house at Kuhtor 2 and the sidewalks in front of the houses at Kuhtor 7 and 7a will be blocked, in addition to the surfaces on the Viergelindebrücke.
The construction costs for the project amount to around 2.5 million euros. In addition, there is the work of Nordwasser GmbH, which cost an additional 1.5 million euros. Three main projects are planned here: the construction of a new 130 -meter -long mixed water canal, the renovation of a 40 -meter -long rainwater canal and the repair of a drinking water pipe about 60 meters long.
Construction delays possible
The exact schedules and possible delays in the construction work are still unclear. Archaeological construction monitoring is part of the process and, in the event of relevant finds, could lead to short -term construction stops. So far, however, there have been no such events. The RGS also indicates that the duration of the closures depends heavily on the circumstances of the underground supply lines. So it is still uncertain which sections have to be blocked when.
The city administration and the companies involved ask the residents and road users for understanding and patience, while these significant infrastructure projects are implemented. Further information and updates about the progress of these construction work are published regularly to keep the population and interested citizens up to date.
