Animal welfare in danger: alarming increase in ads in MV!
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there are alarming messages from the animal welfare area! The number of animal welfare ads shoots up and the veterinary offices are overwhelmed! In the first nine months of the current year, 1770 ads were registered, and that is only the tip of the iceberg! The circles and independent cities report a worrying trend that cannot be ignored!
The situation in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district is particularly dramatic, where the animal welfare ads from 80 in 2015 rose to an incredible 525 to the beginning of October 2024! The situation is also tense in Rostock, the largest city in the state: 189 checks after animal welfare ads were carried out by the end of October, while only 165 were carried out throughout 2023. In Nordwestmecklenburg, the number of complaints has even more than doubled - from around 150 in 2019 to over 330 this year!shocking grievances uncovered
The ads mainly refer to dogs and cats, but farm animals such as horses and cattle are also affected. The symptoms range from catastrophic housing conditions to exposed animals. A particularly terrifying case occurred in the Mecklenburg Seenplatte district, where four horses were confiscated due to serious defects. The owners are under pressure to sell their animals because they are not sufficiently taken care of!
The employees of the veterinary offices are under enormous psychological pressure, not least because of aggressive pet owners. Judicial proceedings are increasing and the costs for the accommodation of confiscated animals are exorbitant. The authorities speak of a "will-I-money mentality" that overwhelm many animal owners. Corona pandemic has tightened the situation because many people buy pets during the lockdown without being aware of the responsibility!
