Greifswald: Caretaker Sebastian W. fights against controversial judgment!

Greifswald. A dramatic chapter in the case of the Greifswald nurse Sebastian W. develops! After a shocking judgment of the Stralsund Regional Court, the nursing officer has appealed. The spokeswoman for the court confirmed that the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) now decides on the matter. It remains to be seen whether the process will be reopened or the judgment has existed.

Sebastian W. was sentenced to a probation penalty of one year and six months after he was held responsible for the death of an 84-year-old patient. The court found that he had acted out of pity when he shortened the life of the seriously ill woman. The patient suffered from lung cancer and hadn't eaten or drunk anything days before her death. An appraiser confirmed that she had no longer had to live, which makes the situation complicated.

Evidence under fire

The judge accused Sebastian W. of having adjusted the head part of the bed in such a way that the patient's breathing was made more difficult, which led to her early death. But the appraiser vehemently contradicted: "I have no evidence that lowering the headboard caused an acceleration of the death process." The defense sharply criticized the evidence. "We have the weakest form of evidence, the testimony," said the lawyer on the last day of the trial. The verdict was strongly based on the statement of a trainee who accused Sebastian W., as well as news between the two. The lawyer does not want to comment further after consulting her client.
