Cologne construction company Strabag: Investigations into illegal price fixing!
A huge scandal is shaking the construction world in Cologne! The public prosecutor's office has initiated investigations against employees of the Cologne construction company Strabag, which was awarded the contract to renovate the Cologne Zoo Bridge. The reason? Illegal price fixing with another construction company! An informant has brought the dark machinations to light, and now those involved are facing serious consequences.
The Federal Cartel Office has already set an example and fined Strabag around 2.8 million euros. The authority is convinced that there was cheating here: Strabag and the company Kemna Bau from Pinneberg are said to have agreed in 2017 that Kemna would make an inflated sham offer. So Strabag was able to emerge as the cheaper company. In return, Kemna received a compensation payment. While Kemna cooperated with the authorities and the case was dropped, Strabag remains in the firing line.
Investigations against eight people
However, the public prosecutor's office is far from completing the investigation. A total of eight people are being investigated for anti-competitive agreements and fraud. Offices were searched as early as September 2021 and important evidence was seized. The evaluation of this data is still ongoing, and the spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office emphasizes that the investigations are taking place independently of the decisions of the Federal Cartel Office. This means that the affected companies and their employees continue to be in a tight spot and have to fear for their future.
The question remains: who was involved in the alleged collusion? The prosecution is determined to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. A drama that shakes up the construction industry in Germany!
