Cold days in Frankfurt (Oder): public utilities interrupt heat supply!

A cold shock for hundreds of households in Frankfurt (Oder)! Due to serious damage to the district heating network, the municipal utilities have to turn off the heating and hot water for several days. The affected customers have to prepare for frosty nights!

On November 19th and 20th, the heat supply will be interrupted in parts of the city. The municipal utilities have announced that repair work on the pipes, which were already damaged in the summer, will now finally be carried out. Antje Bodsch, spokeswoman for the municipal utility, explains that the work in the Rote Kapelle is necessary in order to integrate the new pipelines into the network. “We are trying hard to keep the interruptions as short as possible on both days,” she assures, as the temperatures drop.

Affected residential areas and facilities

The restrictions affect numerous apartments, including:

  • Pablo-Neruda-Block 1 bis 4
  • Kleiststraße 1 bis 6
  • Thomas-Müntzer-Hof 1 bis 12
  • Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Höhe 1
  • Sophienstraße 30 und 31
  • Am Kleistpark 1 sowie 3 bis 6
  • Rote Kapelle 1 und 2
  • Franz-Mehring-Straße 15 bis 20
  • Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 32 und 33
  • Beckmannstraße 1
  • Karl-Sobkowski-Straße 1 bis 7 und 22 bis 32
  • Grüner Weg 17 bis 20
  • Bergstraße 43 und 44 und 46 bis 48

The medical center and a nursing home are also affected. The municipal utilities promise that the heat supply will be restored in the evening to offer residents a little comfort in the cold season. But the anticipation of warm nights could quickly disappear if the temperatures continue to fall!
