Hope and joy: The Maximilian Arnold Wölfe Camp at Bernsteinsee
This year's Maximilian Arnold wolves camps in the “Haus am Bernsteinsee” were once again very popular. These four-day events, launched in 2018, are designed specifically for families facing significant life challenges due to a child's cancer. This year the camps took place for the seventh and eighth time, which shows the high demand. The aim of this initiative is to provide joy, solidarity and hope.
Maximilian Arnold, well-known patron and well-known player of VfL Wolfsburg, is personally committed to the organization. Nine families took part in the first camp, which took place from August 22nd to 25th, while ten families took part in the second camp from September 26th to 29th. With such a number it shows the relevance and need for such supportive programs.
An unforgettable experience for the children
Arnold warmly welcomed the participating families and presented each camp visitor with jerseys, training jackets and scarves as part of the camp equipment. The second day offered many exciting activities such as scavenger hunts, quad biking and pony rides. The children were not only able to enjoy the time, but also asked lots of questions to the VfL captain, had their photos taken and collected autographs. Such personal encounters promote team spirit and the motivation of young cancer patients.
A highlight of the camp was the trip from Bernsteinsee to the Mittelland Canal, where the families were able to enjoy a meal together in the Autostadt. There was also an exclusive stadium tour through the impressive catacombs of VfL Wolfsburg. Here the participants enjoyed an encounter with the VfL mascot Wölfi, which not only made the children's hearts beat faster. One day, a surprise visit from VfL keeper Pavao Pervan caused pure joy, especially for a boy who has the dream of becoming a professional goalkeeper himself.
The two camps were peppered with unforgettable moments and emotional experiences. For the families, it was a time of hope and smiling faces shining amidst their difficult circumstances. And fortunately, there will be at least one Maximilian Arnold Wölfe camp again next year, which will further strengthen the children's hope and light-heartedness.
