Anniversary in the Wiesbaden Museum: Art and nature celebrate 200 years!

Wiesbaden, Deutschland - A big anniversary is imminent! The Museum Wiesbaden, a cultural jewel, celebrates its 200th birthday in 2025 with a spectacular program full of free events. Preparations are already in full swing, and the first highlights have already been announced. The extension of the permanent exhibition "Aesthetics of Nature" and a double exhibition that is devoted to the fascinating world of bees open up the anniversary year. "The birthday cake is arranged," announced museum director Andreas Henning full of anticipation.

The foundation stone for the museum was laid in 1814 when the great poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe expressed his vision of such a house. His idea was quickly received, and on April 1, 1825, the museum opened its doors for the first time. Today it is a two -division house that combines art and nature and was dependent on the support of the citizens: inside to develop. In the anniversary year it will not only be about reviews, but also an outlook on the future of the institution.

special exhibitions and events

The anniversary year brings exciting exhibitions! From March 7, 2025, two large special exhibitions will be presented: "honey yellow - the bee in art" and "honey yellow - bee in nature and cultural history". These exhibitions show the important role of bee in art and its long history of cooperation with people. In addition, the permanent exhibition is expanded to include a new theme area that addresses the constant change in nature.

The events are a thank you to the citizens: inside who have supported the museum over the years. Cooperation with various institutions, including the State Theater and the Fasanerie, are planned. Particular attention is paid to the impressive butterfly collection of the museum, which contains treasures by the natural scientist Maria Sibylla Merian. "We want to become the house of Maria Sibylla Merian," explains Henning and thus sets a sign of the importance of women in science.
