80 years of Peter Roehr: Kunsthaus Wiesbaden celebrates a genius of concept art!

The Austrian artist Peter Roehr, who is in 1968 at the tender age of 24, is now considered one of the pioneers of the minimal art in Germany. He left a significant legacy, especially as a photo artist of pop art and as an important representative of the concept of concept of the 1970s. Although his creative time was short, his influence in contemporary art is still noticeable.

Roehr, born in 1944, was able to complete his artistic training at the Wiesbaden Werkkunstschule, today's Kunsthaus Wiesbaden. In 2024 he would have celebrated his 80th birthday, an occasion that is now committed by the Kunsthaus with a special homage. This exhibition aims to honor Roehr and his innovative approach in art.

An exciting element of this homage is the collaboration with five international sound artists: Danbi Jegenung, Kyungseo Min, Juan David Bermúdez, Wingel Mendoza and Leon Senger. These artists first dealt intensively with Roehr's way of working and created new works especially for the exhibition. This work reflect and dialogate dynamically with a selection of roehr's serial assembly.

The exhibition takes place as part of Interior, a cooperation project that combines six exhibition houses in the Frankfurt Rheinmain region. This offers an excellent platform to look at Roehr's influence in the context of contemporary art and to present the new interpretation of his techniques by the sound artists.

The exhibition will be shown in the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden from September 15, 2024 to November 11, 2024. The opening times are from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., whereby visitors can linger until 7 p.m. on Thursday. Entry to the event is free, which opens up the possibility of experiencing Roehr's impressive work and the creative dialogue with contemporary sound artists.
