New Aldi opened in Büdingen: Customers storm the market!
In an exciting step for the city of Büdingen, Aldi and DM open their doors on the former barracks site on Orleshäuser Strasse on Thursday! Despite the wet and cold November weather, customers flocked in droves, and the parking spaces quickly filled up. The opening of these markets is an important chapter in urban development and promises a new era of shopping.
The customers are thrilled! The new Aldi branch extends over 1,765 square meters, including 1,200 square meters of retail space, and offers a wide range of regional and seasonal products. The branch also relies on sustainability with a photovoltaic system on the roof. The drugstore chain DM has also opened its gates, and Edeka will follow November 27th. The concept of "one-stop shopping" attracts buyers who want to efficiently do their purchases in one place.
delays and new plans
But the joy is overshadowed by a long delay. A legal procedure of a resident and the competition from Rewe have delayed the construction of the new markets by two years. This delay also had an impact on the neighboring kindergarten, which could only be opened this summer. Mayor Benjamin Harris (CDU) has now targeted the old Aldi site in the industrial area to accommodate a new building yard. This could be an inexpensive and quick solution to free the building yard from its cramped conditions.
Claudia Albrecht, head of regional project development at Aldi, commented on the developments and emphasized the long tradition of Aldi in Büdingen, which goes back to 1974. While the city is looking at a positive future, the question remains whether Aldi is willing to sell the old site. "There are several interested parties, the city of Büdingen is one of them," says Albrecht.
