Jazz for a good cause: Dieter Wierz inspires in Okarben!

Music is the melody of Dieter Wierz’s life! The 81-year-old Rendeler will give a rousing jazz concert on Sunday, November 3rd at 5:30 p.m. in the Okarben Protestant Church. Under the motto “Jazz concert for a good cause” he will perform together with talented friends. The band, consisting of Elke Lange-Helfrich (saxophone, vocals), Oliver Zimmer (trumpet, flugelhorn), Günter Hesse (double bass), Willi Schwerdhöfer (drums) and Wierz himself (piano, vocals), promises an unforgettable evening. Admission is free, but donations go directly to the children's charity Plan International, which works to combat the cruel genital mutilation of girls in Upper Egypt.

“We have never played together in this line-up before,” explains Wierz over the phone. "But that's not uncommon in jazz. It brings momentum and spontaneous harmony!" The passionate musician, who celebrates his 82nd birthday this year, has always viewed music as his life's work. Whether singing in choirs, accompanying the literature or playing on a voluntary basis in the ASB residential and nursing home in Karben - Dieter Wierz brings joy and respect to every musical interaction.

A life full of music and commitment

His musical journey began modestly. Although his parents gave him piano lessons, the young Wierz often went to the soccer field. He later discovered the accordion and the piano and developed into a versatile musician. He thrilled audiences with performances in cities such as Hamburg, Lucerne and New Orleans and was awarded the Volunteer Award in the culture category in 2016. Wierz is also the founder of the international choir Pro Musica Karben and is involved in various jazz combos.

But that's not all! Together with Nicola Piesch, Wierz founded a start-up that aims to use the Haderheck spring in the Taunus Nature Park - a dream that could potentially help the city of Königstein become a "spa". Dieter Wierz remains a tireless ambassador of music and good causes while delighting people with his sounds.
