Truck fire on A5 near Alsfeld: huge traffic jam to Kirchheimer triangle!
A dramatic event occurred on Monday, October 21, 2024, on the A5 motorway. A truck, the load of which was made of plastic, put up in flames near Alsfeld around 4:30 p.m. The fire brigade immediately received an alarm and quickly moved out to the site near the operational bypass. Once there, the tractor and the front part of the trailer had already caught fire.
The driver of the truck was able to leave the vehicle in good time and luckily was unharmed. This is particularly important because the fire brigade quickly reached its limits when extinguishing the fire. The flames were so violent that the technical relief organization (THW) had to be consulted in order to provide additional support. At the Rimberg rest area, the emergency services were able to fill their fire trucks with new water, but the cause of the fire and the property damage caused are still unclear at the moment.
full closure of the A5 with kilometers of traffic jams
Because of the extinguishing work, a complete blocking of the highway towards Frankfurt was necessary. This led to an enormous traffic jam, which extended far beyond the Kirchheim triangle. Many drivers who wanted to travel on the A5 had to prove patience. The traffic situation was frustrating for them, especially since the full closure should last until the evening.
The security forces coordinated the work on site and ensured that the fire was deleted quickly and efficiently. The fire that was affected by the truck was not only a danger to the vehicles on the highway, but also for the environment, since plastic can give poisonous gases when burning.
This type of incident is a serious matter for the motorway police and the fire brigade, because the quick and safe extinguishing of the fire and minimizing the disability for other road users are of the highest priority. Understanding the processes in such operations is crucial to underline the importance of well -trained teams and effective communication.
