Rapid construction progress: New weather radar in Jesberg is growing every day!

At a breathtaking pace, the new weather radar of the German Weather Service is currently being built on the desert garden near Jesberg. The concrete work on the impressive 55 meter high tower has already been completed nine days after construction started! Construction manager Erik Jackisch reports on a smooth course, favored by the mild autumn weather. But the conditions on the highest construction site in the Schwalm-Eder district are anything but simple: dense foggy soup complicates the work and the arrival of the heavy trucks is a challenge.

With a dedicated team of around ten employees, work is being done around the clock to build the building in record time. The tower grows by impressive five meters every day! The slide formwork enables a seamless execution and ensures that the concrete is constantly pushed up from the inside. Despite the blocked hiking trails, the construction site is already attracting numerous onlookers who want to admire the rapid growth of the tower.

A new eye -catcher for Jesberg

The new weather tower will not only replace the old, dilapidated wooden structure, but will also become one of the main attractions for hikers and cyclists. It is planned that the tower will be completed by the end of 2026, at the beginning of 2027 at the latest. Then the platform will offer a breathtaking view at a height of 705 meters-the highest point in the Schwalm-Eder district!

The red and white Austrian flag, which is currently blowing on the desert garden, is particularly remarkable. It symbolizes the origin of many workers who actively help with the construction of the weather radar. In the coming days, the construction site will continue to progress, and the anticipation for the 17th radar of the German Weather Service, which is expected to be put into operation in summer 2026.
