A cruel murder shakes Offenbach: A 53-year-old German was sentenced to a lifelong prison sentence after he brutally murdered his life partner with a baseball bat. The shocking act occurred in May this year in the couple's shared apartment. According to the judgment of the Darmstadt district court, the perpetrator approached his defenseless partner from behind and hit her eleven times on her head, even when she was already on the ground. The woman suffered fatal head injuries and died immediately.

The judges found that the crime was committed because the victim could not expect an attack. The reason for this unimaginable outburst of violence was apparently the woman's intention to separate after years of relationship. The man wanted to take control of them, which the judges rated as low motives. The public prosecutor called for the determination of the special debt in order to rule out a possible property removal after 15 years. She justified this with the extraordinary brutality of the crime.

The question of the "why"

The lawyer of the co-lawsuit, who represents the pair of 16-year-old son, asked the central question about the "why" and criticized that the accused had not explained for his act of violence. The defense tried to weaken the allegation of murder and instead pleaded on homicide because it saw the murder features as not given. But the judges disagreement and did not recognize the special debt because the accused was not a criminal record and had stood the crime.

The accused, Thorsten Z., apologized to his son in his last word and expressed that he had no explanation for his brutal act. The presiding judge Volker Wagner made it clear that the man was no longer emotionally with his partner and had exploited her. When the woman finally wanted to emancipate himself from him, he experienced this as a "loss of control", which drove him to the unimaginable crime. The brutal attack, in which the perpetrator did not even stop at his partner's defenseless moments, shows a cruel disregard for life and the dignity of the victim.
