Disaster protection exercise in the Main-Kinzig district: emergency services in alarm mode!

A dramatic scenario recently developed in the Main-Kinzig district, when a disaster protection exercise in the Staudinger power plant took place. The exercise, which was already the second within six weeks, simulated a devastating fire of a battery in a forklift that quickly wrapped the hall into a cloud of smoke. Sirens howls when the fire brigade Erlensee arrived in order to prepare the extinguishing attack without first recognizing the full extent of the danger. In the middle of the chaos, three people were missing, and another forklift driver collided with a tank from which a caustic liquid came out.

intensive use scenarios and realistic injuries

The firefighters worked under immense pressure, while the screams of injuries, which were depicted by a specially trained mimic troop, echoed through the air. With make -up faces and realistic injuries, they caused an authentic atmosphere that even chased a shower over their backs. The exercise required the establishment of a danger area, and additional units were alerted to control the situation. A total of 50 vehicles were deployed, including GABC special and decontaminating units that came from the entire district to support the rescue measures.

The emergency services had to dress in GABC suits to protect themselves from the dangerous fabrics. These protective suits are not only difficult to wear, but also restrict the view. Nevertheless, it was the only way to penetrate the contaminated area. The rescue of the injured was challenging, but finally they were brought into the decontamination area, where they were professionally cleaned to prevent further spread of hazardous substances. In the meantime, the GABC measuring center coordinated the operations and determined the spread of the dangerous substance in the air.

The exercise was a complete success, and those responsible, including Dr. Wolfgang Lenz, emphasized the importance of such scenarios to improve the routine of the emergency services. "We will evaluate the results in detail and see where we can still readjust," said Lenz. The fire brigade Erlensee and the other emergency services were well prepared and worked professionally to master the challenges of this dramatic exercise.
