Hesse's Christmas markets: mulled wine prices stable, almonds more expensive!

The Christmas market season in Hesse is just around the corner, and the showmen are full of confidence! Despite global crises and uncertainties, the market dealers are optimistic about the upcoming festivities. "We are optimistic," explains Roger Simak, managing director of the state association for market trade and showmen Hessen. It sees no immediate negative effects through political events such as the traffic lights or the US election. "The economic consequences will only become noticeable later," said Simak.

Visitors can be happy: The prices for the popular cup of mulled wine remain stable! Simak assures that the costs will not increase significantly compared to the previous year. "We have not felt any inflation," he emphasizes. But not all products are spared price increases. Almonds and corn in particular, which are often offered in the markets, could become significantly more expensive. The purchase prices for goods imported from the USA have increased by up to 30 percent, which forces dealers to adapt their prices. Simak estimates that prices for these quality products could increase by ten to 15 percent.

price adjustments and inflation rate

For other products on the Christmas markets, a price increase is expected that corresponds to the inflation rate. Simak advises his members to increase prices only in accordance with the consumer price index. "A massive price increase after years of standstill would not be understandable for visitors," he warns. However, the anticipation for the Christmas markets remains unbroken, and the showmen are ready to offer their guests a festive experience!
