Rainstadler family: New beginning in East Hesse and the love of agriculture
Hosenfeld-Jossa, Deutschland - Gustav Rainstadler, 50, and his wife Sabrina Pixner, 32, emigrated from South Tyrol to Hosenfeld-Jossa two years ago. They sold the Schnalserhof with their four children and acquired the Annahof in Jossa to find better working conditions and perspectives in agriculture. Thomas Schneider from the district farmers' association Fulda-Hünfeld recently visited the Annahof at the start of the “We show face” campaign, which puts regional food producers in the spotlight.
The decision to move was made against the background that the role of farmers in South Tyrol has changed; Many now operate more landscape maintenance than production. Gustav Rainstadler, located at 424 meters, has been restructured according to Bioland standards with a focus on dairy farming. The family holds a herd of stain of 73 milk cows and 50 young animals, who were brought to Hesse when moving in an air -conditioned van. In the coming weeks, the family plans to open a court café to show visitors where their milk comes from
agricultural developments in South Tyrol
In 2023, a remarkable increase in the organic land was found in South Tyrol. The proportion of organic farming rose from 3.1 % to 38.5 %, which includes the addition of pastures and alpine pastures. Despite the increase in bio -intelligence areas, the production figures, sales and consumption show no positive development. According to South Tyrol News , the proportion of organic food in Italy is declining and is only 3,8 %. In comparison, Germany (7 %) and Austria (11 %) have significantly higher values.
The organic farming in South Tyrol faces challenges, since the numbers of organic farms are also stagnating. 1,959 organic farms are currently registered in the national directory. Walter Steger, a representative for Bioland South Tyrol, called for more political support to promote the switch to biological agriculture. In particular, the pressure on smaller companies through high control costs is a central topic, since organic farms are subjected to external controls at least once a year.
The Rainstadler family has settled in well in East Hesse. The children attend various schools in the region, and the family is regularly attended by school classes who want to learn more about sustainable agriculture. Rainstadler also emphasizes that the agricultural areas in East Hesse are larger and that the machine use can be made easier.
