Winter onset in Hesse: snow, frost and smoothness until Thursday!

A winter slump causes excitement in Hesse! The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued urgent warnings of snow, frost and smoothness, which apply until Thursday morning, 8 a.m. Frankfurt and the entire Rhein-Main area are particularly affected. The weather conditions remain inconsistent, with temperatures that can drop up to -7 degrees during the coming nights. The warnings of smoothness and frost concern numerous counties, including the Main-Taunus district and the Hochtaunuskreis.

On Wednesday morning, November 20, the weather in Hesse will be characterized by rain, snow and pub. The DWD warns of smoothness in the Central and East Hessian counties until 10 a.m. In higher altitudes over 400 meters, snowfall and up to 10 cm of fresh snow can be expected. The weather experts warn that the streets can become smooth in many regions, which leads to dangerous driving conditions.

flood risk and storm warnings

In addition to the cold and the snow, there are concerns about floods. After the heavy rains of the past few days, several rivers in East and South Hesse have exceeded the first registration level. The districts of Fulda, Vogelsberg and Darmstadt-Dieburg are particularly affected. The meteorologists warn that up to 200 liters of precipitation could fall in the next 14 days, which further increases the risk of flooding.

Another incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a tree fell on the L3113 between Mörfelden and Graefenhausen, probably due to strong winds. A passing car was damaged, but the driver was not injured. The fire brigade had to move out to remove the tree, which led to a temporary blocking of the street. The weather is tense and the population is asked to be careful and inform about the current warnings.
