Closure of the gynecology MVZ in Groß-Umstadt: a sad farewell!
Closure of the gynecology MVZ in Groß-Umstadt: a sad farewell!
A dramatic cut for medical care in Groß-Umstadt: The Medical Care Center (MVZ) for gynecology at the district clinic will be closed on December 31! This decision was announced on October 18 at the meeting of the company commission. The five medical assistants who work there receive offers for further employment in other areas of the district clinic or the MVZ. But what led to this shocking step?
The managing director Pelin Meyer explains the precarious situation: "Despite intensive efforts, it was not possible to maintain the infrastructure." A retirement doctor had kept the practice going at short notice, but the search for a successor was unsuccessful. "The market for gynecologists is swept empty," said Meyer. Although the number of patients would be sufficient to operate the MVZ economically, the second necessary doctor could not be permanently occupied. "We have to draw a line, even in the interests of our patients," emphasizes Meyer.
closure with regret
District Administrator Klaus Peter Schellhaas also affects himself: "Better to end with horror than a horror without end." The closure leaves a gap in the supply landscape that you actually wanted to avoid. However, the reasons are complex and are often outside the sphere of influence of those responsible. By the end of December, patients have the opportunity to pick up their documents during opening hours. From 2025 they can then be requested by email.
The closure of the MVZ for gynecology is an alarming sign of the challenges in healthcare, especially in rural areas. The search for qualified medical staff remains a pressing task that urgently needs to be addressed!
