A tragic accident occurred on the A25 near Hamburg late Saturday afternoon: a young man was run over by several vehicles and fatally injured. The incident happened near the Curslack junction at around 5:10 p.m. when the man was wandering on the road for reasons that are still unclear. The first driver who hit him fled, causing other cars to run over him. An emergency doctor and paramedics were unable to do anything on site for the man, who died at the scene of the accident. The highway was closed for hours due to the large debris field while police secured the area. The road was only reopened shortly after 1 a.m NDR reported.
The shocked drivers and witnesses to the gruesome accident had to receive psychosocial support. Investigators are now looking for people who saw the pedestrian before the accident or who can provide information about the fleeing vehicle. The man was wearing a dark gray parka, a red hoodie with white lettering and black sweatpants, and was carrying a black and gray backpack. The police are asking witnesses to contact them on 040 / 4286 56789 or at a police station. The RTL reports that the exact circumstances of the accident are still the subject of ongoing investigations.
