Pure nostalgia: Steam locomotive Karoline inspires 12,000 passengers in Geesthacht!

In Geesthacht, the museum railway experienced an impressive company with around 12,000 passengers in 2024, despite adverse circumstances such as sub -flushing and fire risk, which occurred in spring and summer. The Christmas trips, which traditionally took place with the train pulled by steam locomotive "Karoline", were particularly attractive. Thanks to a high demand, additional, larger wagons were provided by a friend of a friend, so that up to 300 seats were available per trip. Knut Wiese, the chairman of the Geesthachter Eisenbahn (AGE) working group, was positive: "All in all, it was a good year," he reported. On the last weekend in Advent, Santa Claus was on board and brought a festive atmosphere on the track.

The anticipation for the next trips is already great, because the first trips for 2025 are already planned for February 15 and 16. The nostalgic steam locomotive "Karoline", which has shaped the picture since its arrival in Geesthacht in 1981, continues to be carried out with coal and inspires young and old with its technology. The other planned trips include data in April, June, September, November and December.

A highlight is also imminent: the AGE celebrates its 50th anniversary in May 2025. Wiese informed that special guest locomotives should be invited, but depending on the track construction work. In addition, Geesthacht and Hamburg expect progress in the reactivation of the former railway line for public transport - a feasibility study has already been created to check whether the costs and the user requirement are in an appropriate relationship.
