Wedding trend in Germany: Why Hamburg celebrates differently!

Hamburg, Deutschland - Hamburg/Wiesbaden (dpa) - Weddings in Germany have a clear favorite: August! But not in Hamburg! Here the cliché of the romantic summer wedding is simply thrown overboard. The latest numbers of the statistical offices show that the Hamburg is weatherproof and cannot be guided by the warm months. Instead, they also celebrate in the cooler months, while other federal states are preferred to the summer.

In the period from 2019 to 2023, 12.6 percent of all marriages made August the most popular month. But Hamburg is different! Only 48.1 percent of weddings are located in the five warm months. In stark contrast to this, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is 67.2 percent! In August, too, Hamburg showed itself as a wedding muffle with 9.6 percent, while the Baltic Sea region shines with 15 percent. In winter, on the other hand, Hamburgers are the undisputed leaders with 19.6 percent of marriages, while Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is only 10.1 percent at the end of the list.

And what about the Berliners? These are also unimpressed by the weather! They take second place behind Hamburg in the winter and spring months, while in summer and in the warm months they are only in front of the Hanseatic city. The remaining East German federal states, on the other hand, are true sun worshipers and clearly prefer the summer months for their weddings. The statistics only record the legal act of marriage, and the later celebrations, such as church ceremonies, are not taken into account
