Harburg's wind power offensive: new areas for green energy planned!
The Harburg district has taken a crucial step towards the energy transition: In a recent meeting, the district council determined where new wind farms are to be built in the district. A total of 2,500 hectares were shown as suitable areas, with the prospect of main areas around Tostedt and Salzhausen. This is part of the legal requirements, since Lower Saxony has to provide additional areas for wind power by the end of 2027. The district is obliged to provide 3,051 hectares by then and even 3,949 hectares for wind energy by the end of 2032, such as ndr.de reported.
public participation and planning
From December 27, 2024, the planning documents for the wind power projects will be publicly interpreted for three months. During this time, citizens have the opportunity to express objections to ensure that their voices are heard. In addition, information events are scheduled for both on site and online on January 13th at 6 p.m. This not only enables citizens to express their concerns, but also to obtain comprehensive information about the planned wind turbines, such as Landkreis-harburg.de
In order to ensure an orderly establishment of wind turbines, the district has determined that only particularly suitable areas may be used. These measures are important to avoid wild growth on wind turbines and at the same time protect sensitive natural spaces. A total of 63 potential areas were identified, which correspond to the strict criteria for selecting locations for wind turbines. Overlaps with nature reserves and other sensitive zones were deliberately excluded to maintain the environment and to minimize the effects on flora and fauna.
