Winter road damage in Hamburg: 16 million for repairs!
In Hamburg, a comprehensive renovation program for the streets is currently being carried out to fix the winter -related damage after the past hard winter. Despite the fact that winter is already going on again, numerous repair work is still ongoing. So far, around 60 out of 100 damage has already occurred, while the city has provided an impressive 16 million euros for these measures.
The construction work focuses primarily on the main traffic arteries of the city, including Stader Straße and Alsterkrugchaussee. Not only are potholes filled out, but the top layers of the streets are also fundamentally renewed. This work was preferred due to the poor condition of the streets to ensure traffic safety. The Harburg district with Stader Strasse and various other central streets in Hamburg are particularly affected.
According to the Authority of Transport and Mobility Transition (BVM), work continued to be carried out at the beginning of November, such as on Barmbeker Strasse in the North district. The authorities have found that many roads have to be repaired urgently before the winter to ensure the safety of the users. Another example is Osterfeldstrasse in Eimsbüttel, where a sewage pipe is currently being renewed.
to meet the challenge caused by the long winter, an additional renovation program was launched. This initiative stipulates that the sum of 16 million euros is divided into two tranches to support the districts in the repairs. Of this sum, 6.5 million euros have already been called up and now over 21 kilometers of lane ceiling in various districts.
The responsible authorities have emphasized that the work is continuously continued. In order to minimize the impairments for the flow of traffic, the renovation work is carried out during the low-traffic times, especially during the summer and autumn holidays. Further important roads are also planned for the coming months, such as the Swatenweg in Altona and the Quedlinburger Weg in Eimsbüttel.
